On March 11 and 12, 2025, StocExpo celebrated its 20th edition as the world’s leading tank storage and energy infrastructure event. The event brought together industry leaders, innovators, and policymakers to address the most pressing challenges and opportunities in the sector. Held in Rotterdam, Netherlands, this event attracted a significant number of exhibitors and attendees.
The discussions at the conference highlighted the industry's state of transformation. Bruno Hayem, chairman of FETSA, opened the conference by emphasizing the critical role storage will play in the energy transition. As the world faces geopolitical uncertainty and increasing environmental regulations, energy security has become more crucial than ever. The panels on hydrogen and emissions control showcased significant progress but also acknowledged that much work remains to be done.
One of the standout panels was "How Far Can Hydrogen Take Us?" Experts provided a realistic assessment of hydrogen's potential in decarbonizing refining, steel production, and aviation. However, significant challenges remain in terms of cost, infrastructure, and securing investment. The consensus was that hydrogen is coming but will require long-term commitment and smarter policies.
In another session titled "20 Years of Emissions Control," panelists reminded attendees that while achieving zero emissions may not be feasible immediately, minimizing emissions' impact is within reach. Industry leaders emphasized that companies must take proactive steps toward sustainability now rather than waiting for regulations.
StocExpo 2025 also showcased how technology is transforming the industry. Demonstrations by Sprint Robotics provided a glimpse into the future of tank inspection and maintenance. Autonomous robots and drones were designed to enhance safety, efficiency, and reliability.
Beyond industry discussions, one of the most inspiring moments came from Nicolas Hamilton, a British Touring Car driver who shared his powerful message about resilience and determination. Born with cerebral palsy and told he would never walk unaided, Hamilton defied the odds to carve out a successful career in motorsport.
Looking ahead, StocExpo 2025 concluded with a vision for the future of tank storage. Embracing new technologies, securing investment for low-carbon fuels, and strengthening global collaboration are key to shaping what comes next. A huge thank you goes out to all who made this event such a success—speakers, exhibitors, attendees, and organizers.
Until next year!
