The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) has joined a coalition of more than a dozen aviation associations in launching the "National Pause for General Aviation (GA) Safety." This initiative, supported by the FAA Safety Team and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), aims to enhance the safety of GA operations. The online campaign encourages GA pilots to spend 15 to 60 minutes over the next six months reviewing safety videos, articles, and resources.
Despite several high-profile accidents this year, general aviation has never been safer. Over the past 30 years, the fatal accident rate has fallen by 60%, from 1.73 fatal accidents per 100,000 flight hours in 1994 to 0.68 in 2023. Early data suggest that the accident rate continued to decline in 2024.
"The aviation industry is under intense focus right now," said Ed Bolen, NBAA President and CEO. "This is not a time to pat ourselves on the back but to recommit ourselves to doing what we do with excellence. This initiative is all about working together, focusing on safety every day."
The NBAA offers numerous resources to support business aviation pilots, operators, and flight departments. These include:
- **NBAA Loss of Control-Inflight Web Resource**: Focuses on improving safety in this critical area.
- **NBAA Runway Safety Resource**: Provides best practices to reduce runway incursions.
- **NBAA Small Flight Department Safety Guide**: A roadmap for small flight departments.
- **NBAA Safety Data Collection, Analysis and Sharing Resource**: Promotes industry best practices.
- **NBAA Single-Pilot Operations Resource**: Offers valuable resources for single-pilot operations.
- **NBAA Managing Risks in Diverse Fleet Operations**: Addresses common human factors issues.
GAsafe.org offers safety resources divided into 12 categories relevant to pilots operating in every facet of GA. Participants can earn FAA Wings credit, download digital badges, and share links with fellow pilots.
Founded in 1947 and based in Washington, DC, the NBAA represents more than 10,000 company and professional members. It provides over 100 products and services to the business aviation community, including the NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE), the world's largest civil aviation trade show.
