The Intourmarket exhibition, held in Nizhny Novgorod from April 2-4, 2026, highlighted the growing importance of camping infrastructure in the development of motor tourism. The event brought together experts and industry professionals to discuss the current state and future prospects of motor tourism and camping in the Volga regions.
According to Andrei Artyukhov, head of the Commission of the Russian Union of Travel Industry (RST) on camping, glamping, and non-capital accommodation facilities, and Chairman of the Board of the National Union of Camping and Motor Tourism Industry Professionals (NUPCA), there are currently only 444 registered campgrounds in Russia for a potential market of tens of millions of motor tourists. Artyukhov emphasized that campgrounds are crucial as a form of infrastructure to integrate 'wild' campers into the economy. He noted that some regions, such as the Altai Republic, estimate that up to 60% of their tourist flow consists of these 'wild' campers.
At a round table discussion titled "Motor tourism and camping industry in the Volga regions," Artyukhov also shared that there are at least 10 million such tourists in Russia. This figure is based on expert estimates and highlights the significant gap between current infrastructure and demand. Artyukhov further stated that no one knows exactly how many 'wild' campers there are in Russia, making it difficult to accurately count them.
The Intourmarket exhibition complex in Nizhny Novgorod serves as a platform for showcasing new trends and innovations in motor tourism and camping. The event attracts both domestic and international exhibitors, with plans for over 200 companies to participate. The exhibition area covers an extensive space, providing ample opportunities for visitors to explore various products and services related to motor tourism.
In addition to showcasing products, Intourmarket also offers a comprehensive business program, including workshops, seminars, and networking events. These activities aim to foster collaboration among industry stakeholders and promote best practices in motor tourism development.
As motor tourism continues to grow in popularity across Russia's Volga regions, it is clear that investment in modern campgrounds is essential for sustainable growth. The Intourmarket exhibition plays a crucial role in highlighting these needs and facilitating discussions among key players in the industry.
