About
In the picturesque town of Altensteig, surrounded by the idyllic landscape of the Northern Black Forest, the old town transforms into a magical place during the Advent season. The Altensteig Old Town Christmas Market, traditionally held on the first weekend of Advent from Friday to Sunday, is a feast for the senses. Amidst the historic half-timbered houses and against the impressive backdrop of the medieval Old Castle, the heart and symbol of the town, unfolds a Christmas market that radiates tradition and coziness. About 70 festively decorated stalls offer a variety of handicrafts, Christmas decorations, culinary delights, and of course, the indispensable mulled wine. The stalls are artfully decorated, reflecting the Christmas spirit, enhanced by festive Advent music echoing through the alleys of the old town. As dusk falls, the heritage-protected old town shines in a glow of lights, transporting visitors into an enchanting Christmas world. Alongside the market stalls, a diverse program invites visitors to linger from spicy cheese from the twin town of Bourg-St.-Maurice to colorful schnapps and liqueurs by Georg Halter, and various types of mulled wine. Warmth is provided not only by the drinks but also by the crackling fire of the Tälemer torchbearers and the blacksmith in the castle courtyard, who demonstrates his craft. Numerous local ensembles provide musical accompaniment, including the Altensteig Music School, dance groups, trombone choirs, and many other groups and guests from the surrounding area. Parallel to this, a Christmas exhibition takes place in the Museum in the Old Castle, where craftsmen demonstrate their skills. Children also have plenty to enjoy Santa Claus distributes gifts, while the scouts offer various activities such as stick bread baking, candle making, and face painting. Thus, the Altensteig Old Town Christmas Market is a place that delights both young and old, making the anticipation of Christmas palpable. The Christmas market in Altensteig took place from Friday, 29. November to Sunday, 01. December 2024.
