About
The Frankfurt Christmas Market, an annual event held during the Advent season until just before Christmas Eve, is an institution with a long-standing tradition. Its history dates back to the 14th century when it was first mentioned in documents, and since then, it has evolved into one of the largest and most visited Christmas markets in Germany. The market takes place at various historical locations: Römerberg, Paulsplatz, Mainkai, Hauptwache, Friedrich-Stoltze-Platz, and Roßmarkt. These spots provide a picturesque setting with significant buildings like the Römer, Frankfurt Cathedral, and St. Paul's Church, which give the market a unique atmosphere. The organization of the market is managed by Tourism+Congress GmbH Frankfurt am Main, which not only oversees the Christmas market but also handles city marketing and the promotion of tourism in the region. The market stretches across several areas of the downtown and is known for its elaborate and creative stall decorations. A special highlight is the giant Christmas tree that dominates the scene at Römerberg. Visitors can look forward to a multitude of attractions: from the "Pink Christmas" at Friedrich-Stoltze-Platz, where everything shines in pink and rose hues, to Advent concerts and the famous Frankfurt "Stadtgeläut" (ringing of the city's church bells), as well as special rides on historic trains. Many Christmas stalls can also be found at Hauptwache, well worth a visit, as Frankfurt's largest shopping street, Zeil, is located right across from it, inviting visitors for Christmas shopping. Since 2021, the ChristmasRoßmarkt has been a part of the Frankfurt Christmas Market, extending the market from Roßmarkt along Zeil down to Römerberg and the Main River. There is also the tower blowing from the Nikolaikirche and an ecumenical Advent singing, which deepens the festive atmosphere. A distinguishing feature of the Frankfurt Christmas Market is the range of traditional delicacies and drinks on offer. Visitors can delight in regional specialties such as Frankfurt Bethmännchen, hot apple wine, and other treats. Another important note for visitors: Since there are no parking facilities available, it is recommended to use public transportation. This emphasizes the city's efforts towards an eco-friendly event and facilitates access to this festive occasion for guests. The Christmas market will take place on 29 days from Monday, 24. November to Monday, 22. December 2025 in Frankfurt.
