About
The Nicholas Market in Nordhalben, a traditional gem in the event calendar, takes place annually on the second weekend of Advent, on Saturday and Sunday, in the Nordwaldhalle. This market, lovingly organized by the Nordhalben municipal administration, radiates a unique atmosphere. Visitors can look forward to a variety of stands that stretch in and around the Nordwaldhalle. Here, they find everything their hearts desire from handmade decorative items made of various materials to knitted goods, craftwork, natural products, cosmetics, baked goods, and delicious pralines. Each stand is a little artwork in itself, and the selection is so diverse that there's guaranteed to be something for everyone. A special feature of the Nicholas Market is the cozy and special atmosphere, which is further enhanced by the musical accompaniment of the Nordhalben music band and the Heinersberg brass choir. The large beer garden in the Nordwaldhalle invites visitors to linger, where they can enjoy homemade cakes and pies, grilled specialties, and sandwiches. In addition to coffee and cold drinks, there is also a stand with homemade mulled wine, creating a wintery ambiance. Nordhalben is regionally famous for the tradition of lace bobbin-making, dating back to the foundation of Germany's only remaining municipal lace-making school in 1903. The Ködeltalsperre is a scenic highlight. With well-marked trails, long-distance hiking paths, and proximity to the Rennsteig, Nordhalben offers diverse hiking opportunities attractive all year round. The town was once the endpoint of the now-discontinued Rodachtal Railway, on whose section between Steinwiesen and Nordhalben a museum train has been running since September 2007, offering an interesting diversion for visitors. For visitors, there are ample parking facilities directly at the hall, making the Nicholas Market in Nordhalben an easily accessible destination for locals and guests alike. The market's uniqueness, warm community, quality of goods, and festive atmosphere make it an unforgettable experience and a highlight of the pre-Christmas season. The St. Nicholas market will take place on 2 days from Saturday, 06. December to Sunday, 07. December 2025 in Nordhalben.
